Mandy,

I loved your dad too Mandy. I know you know all this, but I really enjoyed knowing your dad for almost for 30 years.

My most fun memories of him were playing softball for the church team, especially in the Bright Tournament. He always amazed me because he would joke about getting old and having a bad back and then he'd get up to bat and smash a line drive down the first base line and drive in two runs.

He was a good coach and team player. A lot of sports enthusiasts can take the game too seriously but he kept it in proper perspective and still was a great competitor and always had a great attitude. I never had to question how he represented Christ on the ball field -- he was a solid Christian man. It makes me shed a tear now just writing about it.

The other thing that will always bring a smile to my face is the tricks he used to play on us in the office -- especially Bob. Bob was of course totally nuts about the Illini His office looked like a shrine to the Illini with all the trinkets and sports memorabilia. Bob had a beloved Illini lamp with a shade that looked like stained glass. He would come in to his office and turn on that lamp so the light of the Illini would shine all over his office. Your dad started saving burned out lightbulbs and every few days he would come in and change out Bob's light bulbs for the burned out ones. It was hilarious hearing Bob puzzling over why the bulbs in his Illini lamp burnt out so quick. Your dad was mischievious and all his pranks were great. He was a lot of fun to be around and I know he was a good dad. We'll all miss him very much until we see him in heaven.
